Made to last minimalist shoe, replaceable midsole
After buying the NoSoBo version, I was so happy I got these as EDC shoes. They have a shorter stack depth (15mm or so instead of 20), but otherwise the outsole and midsole are the same. The upper is VERY ventilated - breezy cool, and still fully bonded and stitched (AWESOME!) to the outsole. This shoe ALSO has the rechargeable midsole. NOTE - it's not the same midsole, so make sure you order the right replacement when the time comes. If you like minimalist shoes, but want something with just a little more under your feet, this is the shoe. Still has the flexibility - especially in the forefoot. Still has the wide toe box and zero drop. The soles are grippy but feel like very durable slow-wearing rubber.
Sizing runs large
It's a unisex shoe which means that for me (female) it was too large all around for my shoe size so I returned them. I suggest sizing downward for a better fit.
Runs large. Would be a great boat shoe.
I think these shoes run large. I normally wear 11.5 but that is too large for me in these shoes. Maybe try sizing down by 1/2. Also, the soles are supper-grippy. These would be great as boat shoes because they are so grippy and the soles are non-marking, but I find them too grippy for general use.
High quality, wide toe box, comfortable sneakers
These TechYaks are very comfortable sneakers with a wide toe box. I bought them for jungle/beach walking, especially in the rain, knowing I'd need a shoe that could get wet and dry out quickly. They have stitched soles and seem very well-made. I actually also bought the old version of the Astral TR1 mesh that was on REI Outlet. Those felt and looked very cheap compared to these new TechYaks. I imagine the new TR1 mesh is much better. One thing to note is that the TechYaks feel more like sneakers than hiking shoes. And when I called Astral, they suggested TechYaks only be used for "light hiking" and that the new TR1 Mesh is better for longer hikes. So far, TechYaks indeed feel more like sneakers than hiking shoes, but should be good for a few miles here and there.
Perfect for my short, wide feet
So comfortable! I ordered a half-size smaller than usual, based on other reviews. These fit my short, wide feet perfectly. The fit reminds me of the Earth Shoe of yore. Very happy with these shoes. I think they will be perfect for upcoming travel
Burnt Orange
I love the color. I measured my feet and ordered accordingly, but I thought the shoes were a tad tight. But wearing them around for a couple of days caused no problems, so I decided to keep them. Walking around in weedy areas is not optimal, all those holes give pokey plant material a place to hide. My son laughed as I used tweezers to work the stickery things out. Still like the shoes, but maybe not for bush wacking!
Great In-Camp Shoes
I plan to use these shoes as my "in-camp" shoes during canoe camping trips. Excellent fit and quality. REI is great with a sale price, coupon savings and free shipping.
Don’t know
Purchased the shoes earlier and never received it so I purchased it again, still waiting
