These were not good in my opinion. They were tough to lace up. Not a lot of give. They also gave my foot an very large blister on the inside of my foot and bruised up one of my toes. I have not had any issues with salomon boots in the past with a different style. They were ready to go right out of the box. These also felt very heavy. I am an avid hiker and i would not recommend these.
I absolutely love these hikers!! I had been hiking in a Salomon boot that I bought 10+ years ago and they were showing wear in the tread. The new boot is perfect- great fit, firm hold, easy to lace and they look great. I'm training for a big backpacking trip in June so I'm very glad I invested in these boots. They needed about 20 miles before they felt 'broken in' and now they are perfect!
Would recommend the shoes! Wouldn’t recommend breaking them in on an 18-mile hike; but that may have been user error. The foot portion was surprisingly comfortable for this breaking in, but the ankles need some time to break in as they’re a little stiff. Cute colors and have gotten lots of compliments already!
Lots of seams on the top of the foot. They press on the top of your foot. Also, when you walk, where the front of the boot creases, it also pressed on my foot. Lots of red pressure points when I took my sock off. I did try to break them in gradually, but gave up after a couple of days. Returned.
These boots provide great support after break-in. Regarding sizing, Salomon’s 7M usually fits my 7W foot right out of the box, but this model is more narrow and has required extra break-in at the forefoot.
Mixed feelings. When I needed to replace my old Salomon hiking boots it seemed to make sense to go for Salomon again - the last pair were lightweight, comfy from the start, waterproof and lasted ages. I struggled to select which new Salomon hiking boots to buy - it seemed like a lot of choice but each boot had a down side. The reviews for the current range were not complimentary either. I compromised and went for a boot a little higher than I might have liked but still had a lot of sole protection, were good in wet and rocky conditions. I did not/do not like the amount of sewn seams on the boot - in particular at the front. It seems like more to go wrong. And I really dislike the colour schemes at the moment - however this is not my main concern when choosing a boot. When the boots arrived I took the dog out in them and found them to be really stiff in the ankles - with the back of the boot biting into the back of my leg. So for my first full hike I did easy ground - about 15km. The boots were incredibly hot which may be a bonus in winter, but not in summer. The boots rubbed my ankle bones and back of my legs - though not bad enough to blister. Because they were so stiff in the ankle, I eventually had to loosen the laces at the top so I could walk normally. I am hoping they wear in and relax a bit - but Im loath to do a big hike in them just yet. What I can say is that they were really non slip on wet rocks. They seemed waterproof, though this wasnt very well tested. They protected my soles and toes very well from bumps and bruises.
I bought the Quest Echo GTX women's several days ago, have been wearing them inside to check the fit. I live in U.S. mountain West and hike daily April/May - October. For decades I've worn a 9-9.5 women's U.S. in Salomon, Oboz, Danner. I had to size down to a 7.5 in these Echo, and I think I still have to size down to a 7. I compared them to my 12+ year old Salomon mid X Ultra 4 boot size 9, and this 7.5 Echo looks massive compared to it, and is still about 1/4 inch longer. The fit, at least wearing inside, is feeling like the old Salomons. I've loved Salomon fit and durability, wore mid and low X Ultra 3 & 4 hiking shoes/boots for over 15 years. They were the absolute best boot for my foot I could ever have worn. But when I needed new boots starting in 2022/2023, I discovered Salomon had drastically changed the designs and sizing of the then X Ultra 4. The sizing had increased drastically - even an 8 was too large and sloppy. The craftmanship and materials had substantially diminished - they looked cheaper and I believed would wear less durably, so I changed to Oboz exclusively. The new Quest color is for fashion, not daily trail use. Greyish lilac, really! Also tried the 2026 X Ultra 360 that fit like the old X Ultra 3/4, so may go with those. But again, that boot is made more cheaply in terms of lacing system and materials. Don't know why the changes - production costs? customers' constant pressure to go with less weight? A few grams less is not a wise trade off for more years of hiking use/durability. It is frustrating, and I think Salomon has lost sight of what had been their A+ formula for spot-on design, quality, and fit in hiking footwear.
