The Ossa 1/2 Zip Hoody has quickly become one of my favorite pieces . It’s super lightweight and packs down really small, so I can just toss it in my bag and forget about it until I need it. It’s really comfortable to wear while moving and does a great job taking the edge off when it gets a bit chilly or windy. The half-zip makes it easy to cool off or warm up, and the hood is handy without feeling bulky. The only thing I wish it had is a front pocket. Something like a kangaroo pocket would make it perfect. Still, for simple, lightweight hikes, it’s a great go-to layer. I picked up the black version and it's not translucent like the other colors.
This is my favorite packable windbreaker. I get the comments that the fabric is slightly stiff, but I like it. Super packable. Mine is still new, but it repelled water very well in a quick shower. I know it is not made as a rain jacket and I have hard shells for that. It blocks the wind very nicely. I am a 66 YO male 5 foot seven and 168 pounds and the medium fits great. I do agree with the comments that more pockets would be nice. The full zip version with a pack away hood may be a nice alternative if that is a dealbreaker for some.
I have maybe 20+ Arcteryx pieces and a lot more Patagonia pieces for reference... I was really excited about this product as I have a few Incendo Airshells and plenty of Squamish, Incendo Hybrid and Patagonia similar windshells which are generally great... I was looking forward to the light/minimal/breathability that the Ossa was pertaining to offer as a summer shell so I called into my local Arcteryx store in Manchester to try the Ossa 1/2 zip on... The Jacket and material felt great until I put the hood on..... The worst flappy oversized fitting hood I have ever tried....Made the garment useless.....Actually flopped forward over my eyes so couldnt see:) Even the assistant in the shop and agreed the hood is terrible. I am not sure why any of the other reviewers did not pick up on this unless they only intend using as a fashion garment as oppose to real world mountain use...?
One of my must haves in my pack. The material is very lightweight and breathable. It's very convenient how small it packs down and takes up very little space in my pack. It's a nice layer to wear while hiking and very easy to manage regulating temperatures. Another small pocket would add more convenience but I like the overall design and material thus far!
I have the blue version and it is very light, it breathes well, the spf protection was major for me because at the top of the mountain sun hits much harder. Overall this jacket is a must and i recommend pairing it with the konseal pants for total sun protection. 10/10
The black is like wearing a plastic bag, doesn’t breath at all, and the light sand colorway looks like a condom when wearing the top only - definitely needs an undershirt. No good for any high output activity as the material breaths as well as gortex - poor at best
Overall great hoody. Super light and packs into the chest pocket very small. The material is interesting, reminds me of elastic bandage, but not as stretchy. It also makes it not smooth, so when you pull it over, it will catch your t-shirt
Will put up on my tik tok but I love the brand maybe I’m being a little generous with review but very thin I mean it’s pretty obvious from picture but extremely thin FyI love brand tho ;)
Great spring/summer hoody, my only suggestion is it needs a drawstring at the bottom of the pullovers + a pouch to roll it up and store away while on the trails to
This one is interesting. It reminds me of a very specific competitor design that I love: another minimalist, half-zip, high-CFM hooded shirt. Fit is true to size, but the cut is slightly more generous/boxy than I expected. That helps with mechanical ventilation, and makes for easy layering under the hoody (e.g. I can layer a silkweight baselayer and alpha hoody under the Ossa). I would prefer a slightly slimmer cut on a piece like this, but that's personal preference as much as a performance issue. I have some doubts about the fabric. It breathes well (very high CFM as far as I can tell), and handles moisture well when new. But there's a lot of elastane in this, which raises obvious long-term durability, fit, and performance concerns. Time will tell. The fabric is stiffer and noisier than I expected (swish swish), with a rough hand - not especially comfortable against the skin, and a little grabby when worn with something like alpha. The stiffness helps the fabric stand off your skin, though, which mitigates the clinginess you can get with some woven nylon wind- and sun-shirts. I REALLY like what Arc'teryx seems to be aiming at here, but I think there's room for refinement.
