My 850 fill puffy finally gave up the ghost early in the season. It was a comparable brand with plenty of mountain time under its belt. I always felt like the membrane was just a little too thin and it showed with how much damage I had inflicted over the years. I was working outdoor retail when the original StretchDown line launched and we weren't all too impressed. Heavy and starchy. It felt cumbersome and boxy. I am happy to report with this generation those feelings are absolutely gone. The material has been refined and feels smoother/softer to touch. It's quieter too. The seam pressed baffles do keep everything from moving around inside the jacket so I haven't noticed any cold spots. Kangaroo pocket is soft lined so the outer material isn't touching cold dry hands. I REALLY wish that it had been put near the collar area. I can see why it wasn't based on if it gets wet or you are breathing into it constantly, however, I do notice that my chin gets a little scratchy when in it for a long period of time. If you wear any kind of neck warmer it's a nice sealed warmth. I'm 5'7 at about 150Ibs and a Small fits me really well. Cuffs on the wrists are soft and also keep heat in incredibly well. It's easily the warmest jacket I own without any layering. Makes for a solid belay jacket for the cold starts. Plenty of compliments from both office friends and outdoor peers. Price is steep but it's been a great investment I hope to keep for years.
