Has worked for me for years

This product has kept my Garmont GTX boots looking new and waterproof for 6 years. It takes less than 10 minutes to apply to a pair of boots, but I find one application a year is adequate to repel water and keep the nubuck looking like new. I highly recommend it.

Works, with alterations

Too bad that REI doesn't sell the spray product rather than merely the sponge applicator. Bought the sponge applicator a few days back, went to work on my boots, and just couldn't get an adequate application to the seams, edges, or stitches. Finally I popped the top, emptied everything into a spray bottle and BOOM, got everything done in thirty seconds. Sure, maybe there's a little bit of waste involved, but I figure if I'm gonna pay north of $200 for a pair of boots, kicking in an extra $9 per year for two or three 30-second applications versus morosely dabbing at the boots for an hour at each stretch three times a year makes the decision easy. That said, the product works as advertised, but not maybe as applied.

9 year old boots still dry!

I bought some REI Spirit 2 boots when I was in high school and have used them in every element and season the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I began protecting my $200.00 investment with this stuff and it has paid off, the boots are still dry! I learned that following the directions are key and so are regular applications. Definitely a good way to extend the life of your boot and stay dry if you're walking through a puddle or knee deep snow.

Works OK on nubuck.

This was easy to use because you won't need any extra materials to apply it. I also thought it was difficult to use because the applicator was stingy on the flow of the waterproofer. The light application made sealing around layered seams tedious. The shoes were not taking on as much water as before application, but still absorbed some. I would only use this for nubuck, where you don't want to change the color too much. If you have normal leather, or don't mind darkening the shoe - use Limmer Boot Grease.

Works great

Used this product on Lowa Renegade GTX, black color boots. I followed Lowa recommendation for cleaning, but used the Nikwax product for the final finish and used nubuc brush when done. Did a great job and really improved the leather condition as I had not taken good care with the boots for a couple of years. Definitely will continue to use and recommend to others.

Easy to use

I used this on a pair of Keen 59 Shitake boots before a trip to Seattle. It rained all day everyday and my feet stayed dry and warm, even after a day on a farm in Auburn. You can expect some darkening when you first apply it, but its hardly noticeable when it dries.

Does a great job. I apply this product about every 6 months. Has kept my Vasque boots looking great and any water just beads right off.

Great for the hiking boots

I had neglected my hiking boots for a couple of years. After washing them and applying the Nikwax Conditioner, I applied the Nikwax Nubuck and Suede Waterproofing for an extra waterproofing layer. Worked great. Have used on several other suede leather shoes and has worked great.

Subpar proofer, horrible applicator

I purchased this for a pair of Nubuck & suede equestrian boots to maintain their weather-proofing after my usual stand-by product has been difficult to find. Following directions, I was simply disappointed in the finished proofing quality of this product on the Nubuck leather. I felt the applicator was far too scratchy on the leather--completely unnecessary if you clean the boots first as you really ought to do. I figured the applicator had that texture to increase its efficiency on suede, but that was also not the case. The product failed to cover much of the suede, and for two knee-high Dubarry style boots, I think I would have had to use the entire thing for adequate coverage. I do think, however, that this would be fine on ankle-height boots. Anyway, I will likely return the product and order my usual online.

Roll, water, roll!

I have some beloved Vasque waterproof hiking boots from REI and wanted to make sure they were waterproof enough to withstand the possibility of walking through snow/ or possible rain on a Mt. St. Helens hike. This got them in shape right away! Doesn't smell great but that goes away once aired out a bit. I put them in in the sink and watched the water roll right off!
