Does a great job!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted to try this on my non-waterproof leather sneakers. It did a wonderful job. Prior to use, you need to moisten the shoes with water. The bottle of solution has a scrub brush on it. The bristles are not to stiff, as to scratch or mar the leather, but firm enough for a good cleaning. After cleaning, rinse and wipe off. Allow to air dry. As you can see from the photos, it does a good cleaning. These shoes have never had polish on them. This is the original finish in the photos. If you look closely, you will notice a nice sheen left by the cleaner. Also, apparently it makes the shoes water resistant. You can see water has beaded up on the shoe.
Amazing!
The cleaning gel worked wonders on my shoes! I have a pair of soft suede Eccos that I love and I was VERY apprehensive about using a cleaner. I was afraid it might leave spots or make the fabric less soft. After looking at many products and reading many reviews, I decided to try Nikwax's Footwear Cleaning Gel. I am so happy - it has made my shoes look nearly brand new again! I have taken these shoes hiking on mountains and sloshed with them through the rain (which you are not supposed to do with suede shoes), and now they look as if I bought them a week ago. I am very happy with this product.
Cleaning Gel
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this sometime ago and I have tryed it on a couple of shoes/boots and it works ok the only problem is that it left the leather darker than what it was before I cleaned it on both par. It comes with an applicator and a bush. It does dispense well.
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to use our Footwear Cleaning Gel. I am sorry that the cleaning processed left your leather darker than it was before. That is very unusual for that specific product to change any color on the leather at all. The cleaning gel only cleans the surface, and does not leave any residues on the leather. A lot of times the cleaning gel removes so much dust and dirt from the outer surface of the leather which can appear to change the color. Please feel free to contact our customer support team with any questions or concerns.
Great job cleaning off my boots
My waterproof boots were starting to let quite a bit of water through and some research lead me to the Nikwax cleaning gel. Some of the reviews complained about the cleaning pad, but enough positive comments made me give it a shot. I followed all the instructions and the gel did a great job. I did find that I had to squeeze the bottle to get enough gel out, but that was a minor issue. I was very surprised at how clean the gel got my boots. I used the Nikwax waterproofing spray, but haven't hit wet trails since I've cleaned and waterproofed. Let you know how that works out as soon as I do!
Bring your shoes back to life!
This stuff works really well and it very easy to use. I used it to scrub and clean some leather boots before adding in the Nikwax Waterproofing Wax for Leather. I think Nikwax recently updated the scrub applicator that is on the Footwear Cleaning Gel bottle. You just flip the bottle upside down and scrub away! It's amazing how fast the suds will start to remove all the mud and oils. Other than some scuffs that I previously had in the boots, the leather looked as good as it could get after I finished cleaning. After applying the Waterproofing Wax for Leather, it helped fill in and smooth out some of the scuffs. I will continue to use this on all my footwear that needs cleaned!
Necessary evils?.......
As I read in a couple of reviews, these Nikwax boot products are a bit of hassle to apply. I've been through assorted bottles of the cleaning gel, leather conditioner, and aqueous wax. The little plastic scrubber may be gone entirely before you finish a bottle, but the remaining pad still works to get the stuff on the boots. And you have to co-ordinate squeezing the bottle and applying pressure with the applicator onto the boot to get the stuff to come out. I always use a toothbrush on my boots under a trickle of running water to "pre-clean." Since I tried to re-sole some Italian boots once, and the new soles refused to bond, I've not dared use any products containing oil of any kind on my boots! Nikwax can sometimes be gotten cheaper on Amazon than the similar Zamberlan products.
Handled some really muddy boots
I had some boots with caked on mud that I left for a few months before cleaning. In between using this cleaner, a plastic tub to soak them in, and a boot brush, I was able to get them back into working condition. The downside is that the solution doesn't flow well to the built in brush, and requires some squeezing and manipulation. If it flowed better, it would be a 5 star product.
Does the job
While it might not get every spot out it does the trick to make your shoes and boots look near new. I found the best way to apply it is to dab it all over the the shoe and then use a nylon bristle brush to work it in. It was a bit of a hassle to get a new bottle started but after trying this method it took no time and no hassle to clean a pair of hiking shoes. there are still a few marks and such on them but all the dirt is gone and they look much better.
Removes campfood stains, dirt, grime and more!
I have used this product for years. It has gotten stains out from my Vasque Mantra day hiking shoes including spilled olive oil and spaghetti sauce from campfire meals. Fortunately haven't yet had to use Nitwax to remove any dropped melted marshmallow stuck on my shoes from my S'mores but will give a report on Nitwax performance if that happens in the future! I also use the waterproofing by Nitwax right after this cleaner as it rains throughout most of the year here in the PNW and it makes it easy that I can apply that wet right after I have used and rinsed off this cleaning gel.
