TALC COLOR BEWARE

WARNING - THE TALC COLOR SHOWS THE DOWN BENEATH THE MATERIAL. See photos. Love the material of this jacket. Bought it in a different color and a different style and will be keeping it, but not this one. I really believe a lot of companies struggle to have a light material over down. You a lot of times see the down beneath it.

Finally found my elusive perfect down parka

Omg I love this coat so much — I’ve only recently received it but the fit, feel, color, and warmth are just perfect. I’ve had other stretch down jackets from Mountain Hardwear but this is the first one that I’ve been truly thrilled with. I got the “outer dark” color, which is like a vibrant navy blue. The hood is terrific. The pockets are capacious. The proportions are just right. The stretch down fabric is so comfortable and ideal for movement. I’m traveling this winter between cold and warm-ish zones and this will be the perfect coat to travel with, that is highly warm but also packable. This is the coat I’ve been striving to find!

I am freezing- would not recommend

I bought this coat this past August to be my go to winter coat, especially for walking my dog, and it has been such a disappointment. I live in CT and it’s been in the 20-30s at night as I’m walking my dog and this coat is not keeping me warm at all. I wear 2-3 cashmere/wool layers underneath and I can still feel the cold and wind through this coat. I’ve also noticed that the insulation has fallen from the top to the bottom of the coat. This has left my shoulders and top part of my arms to have no insulation on them and it’s absolutely freezing. For the price of the coat I am very disappointed and ended up having to buy a new coat.

Thank you for leaving a review. I am sorry to see that your Stretchdown Parka has not lived up to its standards. That situation should not be happening. Not the puffy stretchdown coat I had hoped for

This jacket is a disappointment. I bought a similar higher-end Mountain Hardwear coat with a slightly lower fill power. I think it was 650. I love stretchdown and wanted the latest very warm stretchdown coat. I chose the toastiest one. But this coat arrived today and it is not toasty. The squares seem to have much less loft. It seems thin. I am so disappointed. I will say that, at times, I have felt like women's styles seem to have less loft than the similar men's styles. That does not make sense but Mountain Hardwear has always been more of a men's brand.

You will want to live in this

I bought the stretch down hoody and loved it so much I decided to to try the parka. I live in Alaska and you need a lot of jacket options if you get outside much. This one makes me want to get rid of all the others. It’s the most comfortable down parka I have ever worn. The sizing is generous and easily accommodated a sweater or multiple layers while still giving you the air pocket needed for warmth. You could size down but at 5 feet tall and 120lbs I find it the perfect roomy jacket that goes over everything. The hood cinches down tight for added protection in wind and the stretch makes this feel like you are not wearing anything at all. It really moves with you to stop that tightly bundled feeling but still giving all the warmth.

A flawed design

I love the styling of this coat and the stretchiness. But, after a few washes, the down clumped and moved, within the coat, to different cells. So I have cells with bulging big clumps of down and other cells that are absolutely empty. Completely. I tried to work the down back into the empty cells but it did not work. Also, the down has leaked out the seams. I did every single thing Mountain Hardwear suggests in washing and drying. I even called their Warranty Department to get advice. The cell design is flawed.

Quilting design is flawed.

I bought this coat last year and loved it, but the quilting design is flawed. After a summer of hanging in the closet, all of the down filling has sunk to the bottom half of the coat, and there is no more insulation on my shoulders. The shape and styling is all great, and it's very comfortable on my wide-hipped body, but my shoulders need to be warm, too!

I absolutely love this parka!

I'm a yoga hiking guide and CA Naturalist in Northern California. I'm usually a size medium, and I ordered a medium in the stunning and subtle purple color. This piece fits comfortably with room to spare for base layers. The flexibility and comfort of the Stretchdown material is remarkable. Everything about this coat, from the zippered pockets to secure my items while I play outside, to the slightly elasticized wrists and bottom hem, neck coverage, enclosed hoodie, and length to help stay warm, has me singing its praises. I love to practice yoga outside, and I've stayed super warm during my cold early morning sessions, enjoying full range of motion in this parka. It's also been a great casual parka for everyday use, as I like to stay warm and snuggly even when its not super cold outside. My only suggestion would be to include an elastic cinch on the hood and bottom of the coat to help enclose body heat in colder temps and wind.
