I’ve had so many flash lights and head lamps over the years, I thought for a long time about making the upgrade to a quality headlamp and this one has not disappointed yet! When you want it to be bright it’s BRIGHT but an amazing feature is the auto dim, you set it where you like it for what you’re doing, but then you heard a bump? Or your significant other is trying to get your attention across the camp, you just tap what I call the “go button” and it’s 100% white light, for the perfect amount of time then it auto dims back to where you had it! Amazing… I often forget my cheaper headlamps are on a high setting and drain them! Color options are amazing, it has red and green like we all expect BUT let me tell you about BLUE! This is also the first headlamp I’ve had with a blue option and I LOVE it, I have several pieces of gear with neon paracord attached, or I have a neon green glow in the dark paracord dog leash and with blue everything is ultra violet! I can see my dogs leash on the trail like a black light reactive shirt at a rave lol! I’m very happy with this purchase and honestly wondering why I waited so long!
This headlamp exceeded my expectations. I was a little hesitant about the weight, but it’s super comfy and feels great while using. I’ve used it for trail running and cycling and this thing is a beast. The medium brightness is solid, great for technical trail. The quick shot of the brighter version is great for short sections, dims back to medium brightness seamlessly. Battery pack is lighter than expected and comfortable on. Super user friendly and easy to switch out on the go. Battery life has matched what is advertised, seems to last about 6-8 hours on medium. Overall, a really awesome headlamp. Previous headlamps: Storm and Spot.
I purchased this for use with search and rescue due to is brightness and battery life. This headlamp has every feature I could possibly want with one huge drawback for those who use helmets; The size of the plastic that the battery and lamp portion of the light mount to to interfere with the clips on helmets. To get this to fit on a Black Diamond helmet, one needs to pry the clips open to the point where they feel like they will break to wedge the headlamp in. I would have expected this lamp to be compatible with Black Diamond helmets and I'm frustrated that I spent so much on this light only to have it be incompatible with helmets by the same manufacturer.
I used this headlamp for a Rim 2 Rim, night crossing of Grand Canyon and it performed extremely well. I used it on its 800 lumen setting the entire time which allowed me to move faster than I would have with a regular headlamp. The 1500 lumen bump for ten seconds was also great for route finding. I had purchased this over legitimate SAR headlamps that were brighter because I felt it was the best performance to weight ratio and its ease of changing batteries on the move, which I did. I really appreciated that it went into power saving mode when the battery was low, that's how I knew it was time to change batteries. Works great for its intended purpose, 10 out of 10.
Not having a chance to use it yet (other than around the house), so far it seems great. The activation of the multitude of features is much more intuitive than other brands I have used in the past. Very glad for other color lights than red as in an incident, red light is very bad for identifying blood. The super high-beam tap on the side is great! I am curious if it will work gloves on. Balance of how it feels is really good too, many lights of this caliber droop either front or back, but I did not notice anything. I still need to try it over my helmet, but I do like the optional top strap for on my head directly.
This lamp stopped working after 6 months. The button to turn on the headlamp was difficult to operate and it finally just would not come on anymore. I avoid Black Diamond headlamps because of previous quality issues. I gave this one a chance since it was a high end lamp and I needed one that was rechargeable and could function all night. Unfortunately even their $200 headlamp is not worth $20.
It just arrived and looks fantastic upon unboxing. it feels solidly built and is not overly big. it felt comfortable. as for the instructions they are kind of confusing just like all black diamond instructions are. not really any english descriptions like you would read in an instruction manual instead more pictorial in nature. that made figuring out how to navigate between 15lm, 300lm, and 800lm difficult. but im impressed with its performance as so far. a more descriptive instruction manual would be better less pictures and more writing like a car manual. i cant what mode im in other than its ultra bright, bright, less bright and at the bottom of the dimmer (with everything in between) i would have thought that there would just be 3 modes (15lm, 300lm, and 800lm) with the powertap being a 4th non standard mode.
The Distance 1500 is impressive. The beam pattern is so smooth and wide with no weird hotspots. I use this mountain biking a trail running at night without issue. The band is a little tight on my helmet but still fits on a XL Smith. It's really comfortable since the weight sits so low.
I bought to use while walking my dogs at night and in the early morning. The head lamp is well made comfortable to wear. It is easy to adjust the straps for a secure fit.
Seldom buy high-end items like this, but after a disappointing results with earlier, cheaper BD lights (the head-strap connections were hideous, and broke with no effort at all), I decided to take the risk and purchase one. The light is bright and long-lasting. I can go a on a 12 day backpacking trip and not need to recharge the lamp (of course, I'm minimizing the brightness and usage), which means less weight for me. I have a spare battery, but have never used it on sub-two week trips.
