Statement in support of Rep. Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Dept. of the Interior

At REI Co-op, we believe protecting our planet for generations to come will take all of us, but it cannot happen without strong leadership from our federal government. That’s why we support Representative Deb Haaland’s nomination to serve as Secretary of the Department of the Interior.

Congresswoman Haaland is an advocate for the issues we care about most—access to time outside, the health of our public lands and waters, climate change, and equity. She is also an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Laguna tribe, and her confirmation would make her the first Native American cabinet member. Her posting atop the DOI—which has a long and complex relationship with native peoples and their lands—is historic.

REI is working hard to ensure the outdoors is a welcoming place for everyone, and we look forward to working with Secretary Haaland to advance policies in the interest of all Americans and their public lands.
