REI Co-op welcomes Tulsa community to store grand opening on November 15-17

Specialty outdoor retailer REI Co-op welcomes the community to its grand opening celebration when its doors open on November 15 at Tulsa Marketplace, 6936 S. Elwood Ave West. A three-day party will include outdoor gear vendors, community partners, an afternoon social and more. 

REI is the country’s largest consumer co-op with 24 million members who participate in a wide range of outdoor activities. Everyone is welcome to shop REI and tap into the vast amount of expertise provided by the co-op's store staff and online resources. Members who join the co-op enjoy a wide range of benefits, including coupons and discounts, a used gear trade-in program, an annual member reward of 10% back on eligible purchases, an extended satisfaction guarantee window of one year, and more. 

The new Tulsa store will open at 10am each day. Festivities will include giveaways (while supplies last) and free morning coffee from Coracle Coffee. Local non-profit River Parks Authority will receive proceeds from commemorative mug purchases to support their efforts to enhance community life through stewardship of parks and public spaces along the Arkansas River.

Each afternoon from 1-5pm there will be an outdoor social with brands, giveaways, music, and community partners. Outdoor brands include Altra (Sat & Sun), Black Diamond, Brooks Running (Friday), Cascade Designs, Darn Tough, ENO, Gregory Mountain Products, HOKA (Friday), Hydro Flask (Friday), Muc-Off, Nikwax, Nuun, OOFOS, Sea to Summit (Friday), Smartwool, Osprey (Friday). Local nonprofits and groups including Black Girls RUN!, Tulsa Running Club and Training on Turkey (TOTs) Trail Running Crew will share how to get involved. As part of the REI Tulsa’s grand opening, a $10,000 donation will be made to Bike Club Tulsa.

“From the 14.5-mile Osage Prairie Trail bike path to our wonderful neighbor Turkey Mountain, which has incredible biking and hiking trails, and paddling at the new Zink Lake flume - Tulsa is an amazing place to easily connect with nature,” says REI Tulsa store manager Chris Ulrich. “We are ready to be a resource and partner for the outdoor community, which includes more than 27,000 REI members who live in the region. We are proud to be the second store in the state, following Oklahoma City that opened in 2019.”

The nearly 23,000-square-foot store will offer a wide assortment of apparel and gear for camping, hiking, biking, fun and fitness, climbing, and more. The store will also feature a full-service bike shop staffed by certified mechanics to tune and repair mountain, road, hybrid or e-bike. Every bike sold at REI comes with one year of free adjustments. In addition, REI members receive a 20% discount on shop services (exclusions apply) and a free tube with the purchase of flat tire repair (Co-op Cycles brand tubes only; tube must be installed at time of purchase). The new Tulsa store is the second store in Oklahoma.

New REI members join a growing community that fights for a life outside. With each new membership purchased, the co-op donates $5 to support the REI Cooperative Action Fund. The community-supported nonprofit is fueled by donations from REI members, customers, employees, foundations, and corporate partners – including the co-op. The REI Fund provides support to nonprofit organizations across the country doing essential work to create a more equitable outdoors for everyone.
