New store will offer top-quality outdoor gear and expertise

Nov 23, 2020

SEATTLE – REI Co-op will open a new store in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania in fall 2021, bringing a wide assortment of quality gear and expertise for the region’s most popular outdoor activities. The new 22,400 square-foot store will be located at 6391 Carlisle Pike. REI Mechanicsburg will also offer a specialty bike, ski and snowboard shop for customers to tune or repair their equipment before heading outside. With more than 400,000 lifetime REI members in the state, REI Mechanicsburg will be the co-op's fifth location in the state.

“The Cumberland Valley is home to some of the best places for outdoor recreation in the state, making Mechanicsburg an exciting place to continue to connect our Pennsylvania members to their favorite activities,” said Brian Harrower, REI regional director for the Mid-Atlantic region. “In addition to offering the best gear, we also look forward to investing in the local trails, parks and places that make this region so special.”

In addition to offering quality gear and expertise, REI actively works with nonprofits across the country to steward and maintain local trails and public lands and connect people to the outdoors. REI has been part of the Pennsylvania community for nearly 30 years, and in 2019, REI invested over $100,000 in local outdoor nonprofits. This investment included funds for the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation, Natural Lands Trust and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association. As REI gets closer to opening in Mechanicsburg, the co-op plans to invest further in the local outdoor community.
