May 23, 2024
REI Co-op officially opens its new Glendale, AZ store on Friday, June 21. The outdoor retailer invites the community to a three-day celebration filled with outdoor brands and nonprofit partners.
Located at Arrowhead Promenade, the approximately 23,400 square-foot store features a wide assortment of outdoor gear and apparel for camping, hiking, cycling, running, fitness, paddling and more. A specialty bike shop will be staffed with certified mechanics to tune or repair equipment to help cyclists ride trails and streets year-round.
“We are a team of over 50 experts passionate about our community and ready to share our love for an active lifestyle in a wide range of activities,” says REI Glendale store manager Leah Taylor. “There are already 14,200 co-op members in Glendale, and we look forward to serving the broader outdoor community.”
During the grand opening celebration REI’s doors will open at 10 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Giveaways will be available while supplies last. Community members who join the morning festivities will enjoy free coffee and receive an exclusive camp mug with a donation to a regional nonprofit.
Events begin every morning at 8 a.m. with outdoor brands, local partners and music. Each afternoon, representatives from outdoor brands will be inside the store offering custom fit, product information, and giveaways. Outdoor brands attending the celebration include Altra, Arc'teryx, Black Diamond, Brooks Running, Cascade Designs, Cotopaxi, Darn Tough, ENO, Fjallraven, Gregory Mtn Products, Hydro Flask, Kuat, Nikwax, Oboz OOFOS, Osprey, Saucony, Smartwool, and Subaru.
REI Glendale will be the sixth store in the state. The closest location is Paradise Valley, which is 12 miles away and opened in 1996. Other Arizona stores include Chandler (27 miles away, opened 1986, relocated 2017), Flagstaff (132 miles away, opened 2014), Prescott (63 miles away, opened 2023) and Tucson (132 miles away, opened 2010). The co-op has an adventure center in Scottsdale that offers day tours and gear rentals for cycling, padding and camping. Gear can be picked up at the center or delivered to a trail or hotel. The location also serves as the operational base for guides who lead adventure travel trips across the Southwest.
REI is the country’s largest consumer co-op. Anyone is welcome to shop and tap into REI’s expertise, but members enjoy a range of benefits. There are nearly 655,000 members in Arizona.
