Three-day celebration filled with outdoor and community partners, music and giveaways

Aug 30, 2023

REI Co-op opens its new Laguna Hills store on Friday, September 15 and invites the community to a three-day celebration filled with outdoor brands, nonprofit partners, an afternoon social and more.

Located at Oakbrook Village just off Interstate 5 at El Toro Road, the 33,000 square-foot store features a wide assortment of outdoor gear and apparel for camping, hiking, cycling, running, fitness, paddling, and more. A specialty bike shop will be staffed with certified mechanics to tune or repair equipment to help cyclists be ready to ride streets and trails year-round. A ski and snowboard shop will mount bindings and tune gear so that riders are ready to hit the slopes.

“REI Laguna Hills will be a place where we can celebrate community and connection to our local and global outdoor playgrounds. As a values-based retailer that celebrates authenticity, we’re excited to be part of such an enthusiastic, artistic, and vibrant outdoor community,” said Alan Ortega, REI Laguna Hills store manager. “From Santiago Peak to Laguna Beach to all the South OC parks and trails along the way, we’re here to run, ride, hike and paddle alongside our fellow adventurers. We stoked to invite the community out to party with us, our vendors, our non-profit partners during our grand opening weekend.”

Each day of the grand opening, REI’s doors will open at 10 a.m. with giveaways available while supplies last. Community members who join the morning festivities will enjoy free Verve coffee and receive an exclusive camp mug with a donation to Laguna Canyon Foundation on Friday and Saturday, and to Environmental Nature Center on Sunday.

An outdoor social will be hosted every afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. with music, non-profits and outdoor brands. Outdoor brands will include Adidas, Alpine Start, Altra, Arc'teryx, Black Diamond, Cotopaxi, Danner, Gregory, Hydro flask, Keen, Kuat, Mountain House, Nikwax, Nuun, Oboz Footwear, Osprey, Quantum Energy Squares, Saucony, Smartwool, Sunski.

As the country’s largest consumer co-op, anyone is welcome to shop and tap into REI’s expertise. Members who join the co-op enjoy a range of benefits. There are 1.7 million REI members in the Los Angeles DMA and 4.6 million members in California.

Once open, Laguna Hills will be the most southern REI store in the Los Angeles metro area and the Co-op’s 13th store in the Los Angeles metro area, and 32nd in the state. The closest REI locations are Tustin (9 miles away, opened 1982, relocated 2010); Huntington Beach (19 miles away, opened 2005); Rancho Cucamonga (36 miles away, opened 2004); and Arcadia (41 miles away, opened 1999).
