REI Co-op to hold grand opening celebration in Beavercreek, Ohio on May 10-12

Three-day celebration filled with community partners, outdoor vendors, giveaways, and more

Mar 5, 2024

REI Co-op officially opens its new Beavercreek, Ohio store on Friday, May 10. The outdoor retailer invites the community to a three-day celebration filled with outdoor brands, nonprofit partners, an afternoon social and more.

Located at Beavercreek Shopping Center, the approximately 23,000 square-foot store features a wide assortment of outdoor gear and apparel for camping, hiking, cycling, running, fitness, paddling and more. A specialty bike shop will be staffed with certified mechanics to tune or repair equipment to help cyclists ride trails and streets year-round.

“The Miami Valley has three rivers for paddling; great places to camp, climb, and hike; and hundreds of miles of paved trails and singletrack for running, walking and cycling. With all of that, and nearly 29,000 members already here, there’s no better place for the co-op to open a new store in Ohio,” says REI Beavercreek Store Manager Sam Metcalf. “Our team of inspired guides knows these places well and we are stoked to help outfit this community with bikes, boats, boots, and backpacks, so they can get out and enjoy everything the outdoor adventure capital of the Midwest has to offer.”

During the grand opening celebration REI’s doors will open at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. on Sunday. Giveaways will be available while supplies last. Community members who join the morning festivities will enjoy free coffee and receive an exclusive camp mug with a donation to a regional nonprofit.

An outdoor social will be hosted every afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. with music, nonprofits and outdoor brands. Outdoor brands will include Altra, Black Diamond, Brooks Running, Cascade Designs, Cotopaxi, Darn Tough, ENO, Gregory Mtn Products, Hydro Flask, Kuat, Mountain House, Nikwax, Nuun, OOFOS, Osprey, Saucony, Sawyer, and Smartwool.

When REI Beavercreek opens, the co-op will have five stores in the state. The closest location is Cincinnati, which is 48 miles away and opened in 2012. Other Ohio stores include Cleveland (207 miles away, opened 2018), Columbus-Dublin (70 miles away, opened 2014) and Columbus-Easton (75 miles away, opened 2014).

REI is the country’s largest consumer co-op. Anyone is welcome to shop and tap into REI’s expertise, but members enjoy a range of benefits. There are nearly 29,000 members in the Dayton DMA and more than 405,000 members in Ohio. Members who join the co-op for a one-time lifetime $30 fee receive discounts on shop services, rentals and experiences; early access to curated products and limited-edition gear; Re/Supply, the co-op’s lightly used gear and trade-in program; and more. Members also enjoy an extended return window of one year from purchase (exemptions apply). One of most notable membership benefits is the annual Co-op Member Reward, which is typically 10% back on eligible purchases from the prior year.

New members join a growing community that fights for a life outside. With each new membership purchased, the co-op donates $5 to support the REI Cooperative Action Fund. Launched in 2021, the community-supported nonprofit is fueled by donations from REI members, customers, employees, foundations, and corporate partners – including the REI Co-op. The REI Fund provides support to nonprofit organizations across the country doing essential work to create a more equitable outdoors for everyone. As part of the REI Beavercreek’s grand opening, a $10,000 donation will be made to a local nonprofit that is helping to build a more equitable outdoors.

*Due to minor delays, the grand opening was moved from April 5 to May 10.
