REI Co-op opens the doors of its new Palm Beach Gardens store on Friday, May 20. The outdoor retailer invites local members and the community to join a three-day celebration scheduled for May 20-22.

Located at 11701 Lake Victoria Gardens Avenue at Downtown Palm Beach Gardens, the 25,000 square-foot store will offer a wide assortment of top-quality outdoor gear and apparel for hiking, camping, paddling, cycling, running, fitness and more. The store will also feature a specialty bike shop staffed with certified mechanics to tune or repair equipment.

During the three-day celebration, REI Palm Beach Gardens will open at 11 a.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Giveaways will be available each day while supplies last. REI will host an outdoor social every afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. with music and outdoor brands including Black Diamond, Brooks, ENO, Gregory, HOKA, Hydro Flask, Janji, Keen, Osprey and prAna.

“We’re excited to join Palm Beach Gardens and look forward to serving the outdoor community in their active lifestyles and visitors who come to explore this amazing region,” said Age Ramos, REI store manager. “Whether trying a new activity or heading out on a familiar trail or waterway, we aspire to be at the center of people’s outdoor lives for products and expertise.”

Anyone is welcome to shop at REI and tap into the company’s resources in support of their active lifestyle, but members enjoy a range of benefits. There are more than 320,000 lifetime members in Florida. Prior to the store’s opening, there were nearly 18,000 members in the county. The store joins five other locations in Florida – Boca Raton (opened 2020), Gainesville (opened 2020), Jacksonville (opened 2013), Tampa (opened 2021), and Winter Park (opened 2017).

REI Palm Beach Gardens continues to hire retail sales associates. Those who love the outdoors are encouraged to apply via the REI Palm Beach Gardens jobs page. Applicants who are hired for an open role will receive a one-time bonus of $300.

As a co-op, REI annually invests millions of dollars in local nonprofit organizations to steward trails, waterways and parks and connect people to the outdoors. Over the last nine years, the co-op has invested more than $376,000 in Florida land agencies and nonprofit partners. Last year, $76,000 was distributed to 13 nonprofits in the state, including Boca Save Our Beaches, Inc., Florida Paddling Trails Association, Florida State Parks Association, Florida Trail Association, and Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

Complementing REI’s community investment priority, last year the co-op introduced the REI Cooperative Action Fund, a community-supported public charity, to harness the collective power of the co-op’s members and employees to build a more equitable and inclusive outdoor community. The Fund invested $1 million in 19 organizations across the country. Florida nonprofits included in the initial grant round were Adaptive Adventures (Tampa and Miami) and six Black Girls RUN! Foundation chapters throughout the state.

For those not able to visit an REI store, online resources are available. Anyone may schedule virtual outfitting appointments to receive personalized, one-on-one fit services and how-to’s for a wide range of activities. REI's Expert Advice library offers numerous resources for customers and members to learn new skills, choose the right gear and prepare for outdoor adventures.
