REI Co-op invites members to Re/Supply Clackamas grand opening celebration on September 2

Day-long party at used gear and apparel store includes outdoor and community partners, music and a special giveaway

Aug 8, 2023

REI Co-op is celebrating the opening of its second used outdoor gear and apparel store called REI Re/Supply Clackamas on Saturday, September 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. REI members are invited to participate in the day-long party filled with outdoor and community partners, music, and a special giveaway (while supplies last). The celebration will also include outdoor brands as well as local nonprofits of Latino Outdoors and Forest Park Conservancy.

The REI Re/Supply Clackamas store is a new retail format for the co-op that is focused on providing members with access to high-quality, used outdoor gear and apparel at great prices. Only REI members will be able to purchase and trade-in products at REI Re/Supply Clackamas, but everyone is welcome to browse. The store’s inventory will change frequently, and members can expect to find a range of outdoor clothing, outerwear, footwear and gear such as tents, packs and sleeping bags at 30%-60% off original retail prices.

The store is at Clackamas Town Center at 11860 SE 82nd Avenue, Space K130, Happy Valley, OR 97086 and just off I-205 Exit 14. The new location is steps away from the co-op’s existing location that has served the outdoor community since 2007.

“The co-op has long supported giving lightly used outdoor gear and apparel a new life through our Re/Supply program,” said Megan McElroy, REI Re/Supply store manager. “Our team is excited to build on that commitment by opening the doors of our second REI Re/Supply store and providing our very engaged members access to high-quality outdoor gear at great prices.”

Buying used instead of new typically avoids carbon emissions of 50% or more based on REI’s estimate of preparing used gear for sale versus making new gear. REI’s investment in Re/Supply aligns with the co-op’s 2030 climate goals to de-couple business growth from carbon impact. The co-op offered used outdoor gear to members for more than 60 years through its well-known “garage sale” events at its retail stores. In 2018, REI innovated within its used business to launch a used-specific e-commerce site, trade-in program, and used gear offering for sale in most retail locations. In 2022, more than one million used products were sold through REI’s Re/Supply omni-channel offering. Re/Supply sales in the first half of 2023 are up double digits as compared to the same period in 2022. The Clackamas location will join the co-op’s Re/Supply store in Manhattan Beach, California, which opened in 2020.

The co-op has more than 303,000 active members in the Portland market, and more than 930,000 in Oregon. Anyone can purchase a lifetime membership for a one-time fee of $30, which grants access to not just REI’s Re/Supply program, but a range of benefits across the co-op such as discounts on shop services and experiences, free flat-tire repair (labor only) and ski waxing, an annual Co-op Member Reward of 10% back on eligible purchases, and more.

REI Re/Supply Clackamas joins eight other store in the state that include Bend, Oregon (154 miles away, opened 2005); Clackamas, Oregon (.2 miles, opened 2007); Eugene, Oregon (113 miles away, opened 1992); Hillsboro, Oregon (16 miles away, opened 2004); Medford, Oregon (273 miles away, opened 2012); Portland, Oregon (8 miles away, opened 2004, closing in early 2024); Salem-Keizer, Oregon (43 miles away, opened 2014); and Tualatin, Oregon (9 miles away, opened 1990). A new store in Beaverton, Oregon will open next spring.
