REI Co-op opens its largest store in Oregon on Friday, April 19, when the specialty retailer welcomes the community at its new Beaverton store. The outdoor retailer invites the community to a three-day celebration filled with outdoor brands, nonprofit partners, an afternoon social and more.
Located at Walker Center in Cedar Hills, the more than 39,000 square-foot store features a wide assortment of gear and apparel for camping, hiking, cycling, running, fitness, paddling and more. A specialty bike shop will be staffed with certified mechanics to tune or repair equipment to help cyclists ride trails and streets year-round. In addition, the co-op’s ski & snowboard shop will tune gear to be ready for winter fun.
“Our team of 90 inspired guides look forward to sharing our beautiful new store with REI members and the outdoor community,” says REI Beaverton store manager Dacia Stockton. “Our location is full service in every way – from the largest gear and apparel assortments sold by REI in the state to the region’s top bike and snow shop mechanics to a knowledgeable sales team ready to share advice on where to go and which products can help make your next adventure a success.”
REI’s doors will open at 10 a.m. each day of the grand opening celebration. Giveaways will be available while supplies last. Community members who join the morning festivities will enjoy free coffee and receive an exclusive camp mug with a donation to Northwest Trail Alliance, a regional nonprofit.
An outdoor social will be hosted every afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. with music, nonprofits and outdoor brands. Outdoor brands will include Altra, Arc'teryx, Biolite, Black Diamond, Brooks Running (Friday only), Cascade Designs, Columbia, Cotopaxi, Danner, Darn Tough, Dometic, ENO, Gregory Mtn Products, GU, Heather's Choice, Hydro Flask, Icebreaker, Keen, Mountain House, NEMO, Nikwax, OOFOS, Osprey, prAna, Rite in the Rain, Salomon, Sawyer, Sea to Summit, Snow Peak. Local nonprofit Trailkeepers of Oregon will also have a presence.
At Saturday’s outdoor social, meet founders of companies who are part of REI’s Path Ahead Ventures Embark program. Embark is a virtual, three-month program designed to fuel new and aspiring entrepreneurs from Black, Indigenous, Latina/o/x, and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities to build a path forward by offering the resources and guidance to turn early-stage ideas into viable businesses.

REI is the country’s largest consumer co-op. Anyone is welcome to shop and tap into REI’s expertise, but members enjoy a range of benefits. There are more than 303,000 members in the market and 936,000 members in Oregon. Members who join the co-op for a one-time lifetime $30 fee receive discounts on shop services, rentals and experiences; early access to curated products and limited-edition gear; Re/Supply, the co-op’s lightly used gear and trade-in program; and more. Members also enjoy an extended return window of one year from purchase (exemptions apply). One of most notable membership benefits is the annual Co-op Member Reward, which is typically 10% back on eligible purchases from the prior year.
New members join a growing community that fights for a life outside. With each new membership purchased, the co-op donates $5 to support the REI Cooperative Action Fund. Launched in 2021, the community-supported nonprofit is fueled by donations from REI members, customers, employees, foundations, and corporate partners – including the REI Co-op. The REI Fund provides support to nonprofit organizations across the country doing essential work to create a more equitable outdoors for everyone. As part of the REI Beaverton’s grand opening, a $10,000 donation will be made to a local nonprofit that is helping to build a more equitable outdoors.
