REI Co-op support during the Los Angeles County fires

The current wildfire situation in Southern California is severe, with multiple fires and strong winds causing evacuations and damage across the greater Los Angeles area. The scale of destruction is heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this crisis.  

We are maintaining regular communication with all employees in the Los Angeles area to ensure they are supported. We are here for our teams and the communities we serve, and we will continue to prioritize their well-being as we navigate the days ahead together. 

Supporting employees 

Teams across the co-op are coming together to ensure that every affected employee feels supported during this difficult time. Store managers are working closely with teams across the organization to provide the care and assistance employees need in the weeks ahead. 

Our facilities teams are prioritizing the health and safety of our employees and communities, working to deliver additional resources to stores. As the situation evolves, we remain committed to closely monitoring conditions and taking thoughtful actions to address emerging needs. Additionally, none of our stores have suffered damage at this time. 

Supporting  communities 

REI Co-op will donate $50,000 to the California Community Foundation - Wildfire Recovery Fund in addition to the following:  

• Launching a nationwide campaign encouraging our employees, members and customers to join us in cooperative action by donating at the checkout in stores. The campaign will run from January 11 to January 19. Funds raised will be distributed to California Community Foundation - Wildfire Recovery Fund.

• Donating $20,000 of product from our stores in Southern California to nonprofits supporting wildfire recovery efforts.  

• Offering a 20% off discount for first responders at all stores in the Central and Southern California regions.  

What you can do  

Employees, customers, and organizations across the country have been asking what they can do to help.  Consider donating to the non-profit organization identified by our local teams, the California Community Foundation, or one of the many other organizations supporting wildfire recovery efforts.
