Catalina Island offers pristine beaches, secluded coves, and a network of hiking trails through unspoiled land with dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean. During this two-day trek on a portion of the Trans-Catalina Trail, we'll explore the higher reaches of the island while keeping an eye out for American Bison and the endemic Santa Catalina Island Fox. After a steep ascent, we'll enjoy a rejuvenating lunch with a 360-degree vista that encompasses Catalina's singular topography and other Channel Islands along the horizon. We'll descend Grecian cliffs into Little Harbor and offload our packs to enjoy the sunset from camp, or meander up the Whale's Tail, a jagged viewpoint that attracts cliff-divers and surfers. Along the way, we'll share backpacking tips and insight into the island's natural and cultural history. This trip is perfect for avid hikers and those interested in developing their multiday backpacking skills. Participants should feel comfortable carrying a 35lb pack while walking on loose, steep terrain for 5.3 miles per day with 1,550 ft elevation gain and loss each way. We love this hike, and we know you will too! Ferry from San Pedro and meals are included. Start and end time will vary based on Catalina Express Ferry departure times; you will receive your trip's precise meeting time via email.
