Join REI at the historic Steelworkers Park to learn from our climbing guides about the effort to re-purpose this old slag site into an outdoor recreation opportunity for Chicago's southeast side! Edged by remnant elements of the steel industry, you will have the opportunity to rock climb on most notably a series of enormous concrete ore walls. Kids ages 5-12 will learn the basics of rock climbing in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We'll start with an overview of basic rock climbing gear and teach kids how to put on a climbing harness; then provide individualized instruction in belaying and climbing. All climbing gear provided. Responsible adult must remain onsite for the class duration.
