Hill Country Overnight Backpacking Trip

Hill Country State Natural area contains over 5,000 acres of rugged canyons, scenic plateaus and tranquil creek bottoms. Escape from the bustle of modern life to a more relaxed time and place as we hike into primitive backpacking sites within this former Texas ranch turned State Natural Area. We'll cover 8 miles over two days spent trekking at an easy pace along creeks, grasslands, hilltops and canyons. During this overnight trip we'll explain how to choose and use equipment (including how to load and carry your backpack) to maximize your comfort and fun. You'll also learn about campsite selection, navigation/route finding, camp cooking, water treatment, wildlife precautions and Leave No Trace etiquette. We will all meet at the Hill Country State Natural Area Saturday morning to start our backpacking trip. REI provides the following gear: backpack, tent, sleeping pads, stoves, all cookware, trekking poles, water filter and food. We will send you details trip information the week prior to your trip. Please note: trip includes 8 miles of hiking on uneven and sometimes steep terrain. This trip does involve moderate exercise.
