Beloved by locals and admired by adventurers nationwide, the Catskill Mountains offer spectacular views and pristine wilderness less than 3 hours from New York City. On this overnight trip in Catskill State Park, we'll explore the beauty of the Catskill Mountains while learning and practicing all the valuable backcountry skills necessary for backpacking. If we're lucky, we might even cross paths with a bobcat or see a black bear. Along the way, we'll share some hiking tips and offer insight into the region's history and ecosystem. The best part of this tour? We do all the planning and we'll bring all the gear and food - you just show up. Our instructors explain how to choose and use equipment (including how to load and carry your backpack) to maximize your comfort and fun. You'll also learn about campsite selection, camp cooking techniques, water treatment and Leave No Trace etiquette. Course includes all of the necessary gear (backpack, tent, sleeping bag, pad, stove, all cookware, trekking poles, and water filters)
