This beginner-focused mountaineering class is designed for first-time adventurers or those looking to refresh their skills. While we won’t be climbing a mountain during this session, you’ll gain the foundational knowledge and techniques to prepare for your first high-altitude adventure. Our expert guides will lead you through proper use of an ice axe and crampons, techniques for roped travel on 4th-class terrain, placing alpine protection and practicing hip belays. We'll also cover fundamental winter mountaineering preparation, including layering, gear selection, and route planning. We’ll dive into the details of staying safe and prepared in snowy, high-country conditions. If we’re lucky, there may even be snow to practice in! This weather-dependent class is a perfect mix of hands-on practice and preparation for future mountain adventures. Join us to build your skills and daydream about summiting snowy peaks!
