How to Pack for Front-Country Travels with Glen Van Peski

Glen Van Peski is an expert in ultra-light backpacking. He last spoke at REI about back country travel but this time he will present an ultra-light kit for traveling to more developed areas such as Europe. The following is an experience Glen had while traveling. "The customs agent at the San Francisco airport said it again, 'Do you have all your luggage with you?' I replied, again, that I did, motioning to the Vagabond pack hanging on my right shoulder. The guy knew I had just gotten off an international flight and was clearly having trouble wrapping his head around the fact of someone traveling for a month overseas with less luggage than most people take for an overnight. He finally shrugged and waved me on down the connecting flights corridor." Glen is a retired civil engineer who accidentally started an ultralight backpacking gear company. Besides being an avid ultralight backpacker and bike packer in the U.S. and abroad, he's an entrepreneur, author, speaker, philanthropist and dishwasher. He founded Gossamer Gear over 25 years ago, and recently wrote "Take Less. Do More. Surprising Life Lessons in Generosity, Gratitude and Curiosity from an Ultralight Backpacker."
