We thought we had tried every burger condiment under the sun: Curry ketchup, Sriracha mayo, Tzatziki sauce, you name it! Which is why it seems wild we had never heard of a guac burger before!
It's apparently pretty common, so we're sorry if we're late to the party, but the combination is just too perfect. The rich creaminess of the avocado plays perfectly off the charbroiled outside of the burger. Add in a jalapeno into the guacamole for some heat and some southwestern spices into the beef patties and you have our new favorite BBQ jam!
We grilled these burgers using hardwood lump charcoal, but if that's not an option for you that's OK. You can still get excellent results cooking burgers in a hot, lightly-oiled cast iron skillet. So the next time you're firing up the grill, give these Guacamole Burgers a try. We guarantee they won't disappoint!

Southwest Guacamole Burger
Ingredients
Burger patties
- 1 lb ground beef (80% or 85% lean)
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Guacamole
- 1 avocado
- 1 roma tomato (1/4-1/2 cup chopped)
- 1 tablespoon cilantro
- 1 small jalapeño (1-2 tablespoons chopped)
- 1/2 lime juice (1 tablespoon)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Burger assembly
- Chipotle mayo
- Monterey jack cheese
- Buns
Directions
Step 1
Divide the ground beef into 4 patties. In a small bowl, blend the spices together. Sprinkle over all sides of the burger patties and gently press so they stick. If you're making the patties ahead of time, skip this step until right before you grill. This will prevent the meat from losing it's moisture over time due to the salt.
Step 2
Grill the patties over medium heat on a grill, flipping once, until they are cooked to your liking: internal temperature of 130F for medium-rare, 135F for medium, 140F for medium-well. Remove from grill. Toast the buns if desired.
Step 3
Make the guacamole: scoop out the avocado flesh and place it in a small bowl. Add the diced tomato, diced jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, and salt and mash with a fork until everything is evenly distributed.
To build the burger, spread chipotle mayo on one bun, layer on a burger patty, and top with guacamole. Enjoy!
