Help pass the SHADE Act

Let's get more trees in the neighborhoods that need them most by urging Congress to pass the SHADE Act.

Cooperative Action Network

Let's plant trees where they're needed most.

Trees are essential for health and well-being, yet they aren’t always easily accessible. In communities across the country with less tree coverage, people experience higher temperatures and energy costs, lower home values, worse air quality and higher rates of asthma.

According to our partners at American Forests, a map of tree cover in the United States is too often a map of income and race. In fact, formerly redlined neighborhoods are hotter than non-redlined areas by as much as 12.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Neighborhoods with the most people of color have 38% less tree canopy than neighborhoods with the fewest.

The SHADE (Saving Hazardous And Declining Environments) Act would address tree equity by creating grants to plant more trees in formerly redlined neighborhoods. But we need the support of outdoor enthusiasts like you to ensure it gets passed.

Add your name now and tell Congress to support the SHADE Act today.
