Recreational Equipment, Inc. U.S. State Privacy Notice
Effective Date: February 13, 2025.
Introduction
California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Virginia have enacted consumer privacy laws that grant their residents certain rights and require additional disclosures. This U.S. State Privacy Notice ("Notice") addresses these state-specific requirements and serves as our California notice at collection.
If you are a resident of one of the states listed above, this Notice, together with our Privacy Notice, applies to you.
We may update this Notice from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the Effective Date above and, in some cases, we may provide you with more prominent notice (for example, by adding a statement to our homepage or sending you a notification), such as in connection with making material changes to this Notice. We encourage you to review this Notice regularly to stay informed about our information practices and the choices available to you.
Collection, Use, and Disclosure of Personal Information
As described in our Privacy Notice, we collect, use, and disclose personal information about you. Below, we use two different tables to explain this same information in accordance with state privacy laws. The tables describe our data practices now and over the past 12 months.

Personal Information that we "Share," "Sell," or Use for "Targeted Advertising"
We disclose the following categories of personal information to third parties for the purpose of engaging in targeted advertising and other marketing activities, including to expand the reach and effectiveness of our own marketing campaigns, for example to help avoid duplicative advertising to you. In some cases, this information may also be used for the third parties’ own marketing purposes. These activities are considered “sales,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” under certain state laws and you have the right to opt out of having your personal information used or disclosed for these purposes.
This means that we share identifiers, such as your IP address or your mobile device's marketing identifier, with 3rd parties who help us categorize you and other consumers into audiences and then adjust the advertising you see based on characteristics of that audience so that ads are more relevant. You may opt out of this sharing at any time; if you do opt out you will still see advertising, but we will not share your data for purposes of tailoring those ads to our understanding of your interests.
Certain state laws also provide you with the right to opt out of data processing that constitutes “profiling” for purposes of decisions that may have a legal or similar effect, such as hiring or issuance of credit. Here, “profiling” means the use of a solely automated process to render a decision. REI does not currently engage in any such “profiling.”

Other Details About Our Information Practices
- As described in more detail in our Privacy Notice, we collect personal information from different sources, including: directly from you; automatically when you access or use our Services or shop in our stores; and from third-party sources, including the financial institutions we partner with if you apply for certain co-branded financial products, and other users if they decide to purchase a gift for you.
- We do not knowingly collect, sell, or share personal information about consumers under the age of 16.
- We generally do not collect information that is considered “sensitive” under state privacy laws. In the limited circumstances that we do, such as collection of your account username and password, which is designated as “sensitive” under the California Consumer Privacy Act, we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.
- We store personal information associated with your account for as long as your account remains active. If you close your account, we will delete your account data; otherwise, we will delete your account data after a period of inactivity. We store other personal information for as long as necessary to carry out the purposes for which we originally collected it and for other business purposes explained in this Notice.
Additional Privacy Rights
Opting Out of Sales, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising.
As described above, you have the right to opt out of having your personal information sold, shared, or used for targeted advertising. You may opt out by following the prompts here. You may opt out of sales, sharing, or targeted advertising associated with your email address, or other information we may disclose to our advertising or other partners so they can show you ads that are more relevant to your interests, by visiting this form and submitting the required information. You can also opt out by logging in to your REI account and visiting our Services with a legally recognized opt-out preference signal enabled, such as the Global Privacy Control.
Access, Correction, and Deletion
You have the right to (1) request to know more about and access your personal information, including in a portable format, (2) request deletion of your personal information, and (3) request correction of inaccurate personal information. To request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information, you may submit this webform or contact REI Customer Service at 1-800-426-4840. We will verify your request by asking you to provide certain information, such as information regarding a recent purchase. Please note that you can also access, correct, or delete certain information stored within your online account at any time by logging into your online account.
Nondiscrimination
We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
Authorized Agents
If you reside in California, Colorado, or Connecticut, you can designate an authorized agent to submit a privacy rights request on your behalf. We may ask authorized agents to submit proof of their authority to make a request, such as a valid power of attorney or proof that they have signed permission from the consumer who is the subject of the request. In some cases, we may be required to contact the consumer to verify his or her identity or confirm the authorized agent has permission to submit the request. Authorized agents can submit rights requests by following the instructions provided above.
Appeals
In some cases, we may deny your privacy rights request. You have the right to appeal our decision by contacting us at privacy@rei.com. If you have concerns about the result of an appeal, you may contact the attorney general in the state where you reside.
Notice of Financial Incentives
We offer various financial incentives. For example, we may provide discounts, gift cards, or other benefits to customers who sign up to receive our marketing emails or participate in a survey. When you participate in a financial incentive, we collect personal information from you, such as identifiers (like your name and email address), commercial information (like your purchase history), and inferences.
We disclose this information to our cloud service providers and marketing and advertising partners, including for the purpose of engaging in targeted advertising and other marketing activities.
You can opt into a financial incentive by following the sign-up or participation instructions provided. For financial incentives with ongoing benefits, you have the ability to opt-out at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions in our promotional emails or contacting us at privacy@rei.com. If you request that we delete any of your personal information that is essential to providing you with the financial incentive, we will not be able to provide you with the benefits of that program (e.g., if you ask us to delete your email address, we will no longer be able to provide you with early access to sales or other benefits). In some cases, we may provide additional terms and conditions for a financial incentive, which we will provide to you when you sign up. The value of your personal information is reasonably related to the value of the offer or discount presented to you.
Notice of Bona Fide Loyalty Program
REI is organized as a cooperative business and offers membership to any natural person in return for a one-time membership fee. REI membership provides certain organizational rights, such as authorization to vote on its Board, but also certain rewards and benefits, such as discounts, rewards, free shipping and member-only events. Some state privacy laws may consider this a “bona fide loyalty program,” and as such we provide here notice of the personal data collection for REI membership and what to expect may happen to membership benefits if you request we delete your membership. When you join REI as a Member, we collect personal information from you, such as identifiers (like your name and email address), commercial information (like your purchase history), and inferences. We disclose this information to our cloud service providers and marketing and advertising partners, including for the purpose of engaging in targeted advertising and other marketing activities.
You can opt into the Rewards Program by following the sign-up or participation instructions provided.
For ongoing benefits of our Rewards Program, you can opt-out at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions in our promotional emails or contacting us at privacy@rei.com. If you request that we delete any of your personal information that is essential to providing you with the benefits, we will not be able to provide you with the benefits of that program (e.g., if you ask us to delete your email address, we will no longer be able to provide you with early access to sales or other benefits).
To the extent the Rewards Program is related to the value of Member personal information, the method for calculating that value would include the value related to our offer or discount. The value of your Member personal information that we collect will vary depending on the engagement by each Member.
